Abstract
The present study investigated the living conditions and poverty levels of Dalit women labourers in rural areas of Haryana. It was based on primary data collected from 535 respondents and used different methods to assess poverty, including income and consumption indicators. The study revealed that most of the Dalit women labourers were illiterate, lived in nuclear families, and the conditions of their homes were very poor. The analysis also showed that a large segment of households experienced poverty, with stricter measures revealing deeper levels of deprivation. These results showed that a very large number of Dalit women’s families in rural Haryana were living in poverty, no matter which method was used to measure it. Poverty among these households highlighted the urgent need for targeted government programs and a support system to improve their lives through better jobs, education, healthcare, and financial security.
