The study investigated
participation and resource accessibility of women in organic hill agriculture
of the state of Sikkim. The study examined the role of women across various
farming stages, such as seed preservation, pest management, and traditional
knowledge sharing, while identifying barriers to accessing land, credit,
technology, and markets. Through surveying and interviewing 60 women farmers,
the study found that although financial inclusion and decision-making roles were
improving, awareness of credit schemes and training opportunities remained
limited. The contributions of women were crucial for maintaining sustainability
in organic agriculture, yet gender-based disparities persisted. The findings
called for gender responsive interventions that enhance financial literacy,
strengthen land rights, and expand market access. Promoting equitable
participation will not only empower rural women but also advance food security,
environmental sustainability, and inclusive agricultural development.
