Abstract

Bees have enhanced rural incomes and supported ecological and economic sustainability. This paper investigated the current status and trends concerning the production and exports of hive products in the Indian context. The trends for hive products using secondary data-based Log Linear growth models were examined. The findings of the study indicated rapid growth in the export of honey compared to the production side. Beeswax has come up as a rapidly growing export option besides honey. These products recorded significant positive growth trends. For better price realization, there is a need to enhance local consumption of honey and diversify the export destination portfolio. Consolidation on the production and marketing front, through the creation of Farmer Producer Organizations, will pave the way for effective consumer market linkages.
